JCSA DEVELOPMENT DIRECTORS DISCUSS THRUST AREAS FOR SOUTH ASIA
The Province Development Directors (PDDs) of Jesuit Conference of South Asia had the Annual meeting from 6-8 January 2017 held at St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Ahmedabad. The team of twenty, spent considerable time enhancing themselves on strategic apostolic planning with the theme “Sustainability and Development.” Along with the PDDs, was present Fr. George Pattery, the President of the Conference of South Asia and Secretary Fr. Keith.
Fr. George Pattery gave the keynote address and Fr. Jorge Eduardo Serrano from Rome gave the input on Fund raising and Jesuit charism. The provincial of Gujarat Jesuit province welcomed the participants from different parts of India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Christie Savariraj (Director- Loyola Institute of Business Applications-LIBA, Chennai), Amritlal Toppo (Director, Development- Jesuit Province of Madhya Pradesh), Fernando Franco (Director-Development Office and Research, St. Xavier’s College, Ahmedabad) and Siji Noorokariyil (Coordinator-PDD, Patna) had made presentations on processes, tools and applicability of strategic planning. Main resource persons were Mr. Nabarun Sengupta (Development Consultant) and Mr. Lourdes Baptista (Assistancy Development Director-JCSA).
Presentations were also done by Fr. Peter Daniel (Andhra), Bob Slattery (Hazaribagh), Trevor Miranda (founder of REAP, Mumbai) and Boby Joseph (Director-Treasurer-Nepal Jesuit Society, Nepal). Representatives from the province of Gujarat introduced before the group a programme called PEOPLE-SJ, envisaged as part of complimenting the efforts for entitlements for the marginalized. Other participants were Dominic Jaykumar (Chennai), George Kerketta (Ranchi), Hector D’Souza (Kohima), Jothi (Kolkotta), K.P. George (Delhi), Nirmal Raj (Dumka), Thushara Sampath (Sri Lanka) and Xavier Lakra ( Assam)
It was a meaningful time of capacitating the Province Development Directors, revisiting their roles and responsibilities in the context of GC 36. There were inputs on fundraising and programme management. The group also identified Ecology and Environment, Peace building and reconciliation, innovative informal education, issues of migration and entitlement as major thrust areas to focus on for the coming 3-5 years. Catherine, a volunteer from Albania studying at St. Xavier’s College was the documenting person for the three days workshop and reflections.
