
JCSA Meeting at Chennai
All the major superiors of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia (JCSA) headed by Fr Stanislaus D’Souza along with the General Assistants, Frs. Vernon D’Cunha, M K George, and John Dardis gathered at Loyola College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 16th to 22nd February 2025. During these seven days, the Major Superiors deliberated on several issues and took many decisions for the good of the Society of Jesus in South Asia and the Society in general. Continuing with the last JCSA meeting in Delhi, the main concern of the Major superiors was the process of Re-imagining and Re-structuring of the Society of Jesus in South Asia. Based on the Roadmap prepared by Fr Wendell D’Souza and team, the Major Superiors shared in groups the success stories in their own provinces/regions.
Fr MK George gave some general remarks on our way of proceeding and some practical points for better relationship with Rome. Fr Vernon clarified some issues related to finances and property in the Society of Jesus. He gave a historical note on the meeting of Provincials. At the end he explained the spiritual governance in the Society of Jesus as a way of being, doing and witnessing. This was an enlightening session.
The Major Superiors spent a good amount of time in faith sharing at the beginning of the meeting and in spiritual conversation during the meeting. All the participants were very happy and appreciated the hospitality they received from the host province, Chennai. The host Provincial, Fr Jebamalai and the team, the Loyola College Community in particular, went out of their way to make the meeting a memorable one.
