First Annual Meeting of the Eco Delegates of the South Asian Conference – 2025
Eco delegates of the 19 Provinces and one region of the SA conference participated in the first ever conference meeting, held at Loyola College, Chennai from 21st to 23rd March, 2025, with the theme ‘Towards Climate Justice’. Fr. Stany D’ Souza, our POSA gave the inaugural address. Frs. Jebamalai, Provincial, Chennai Province, Xavier Soreng, Secretary of CSEJ, Joe Arun, PCC of Chennai Province and Antony Robinson, Rector, Loyola College offered their felicitations by stressing the urgency of immediate intervention through our concrete actions to save and protect our only planet ‘Mother Earth’.
Mr. G. Sundar Rajan, Coordinator of Poovulagin Nanbargal (Friends of the Earth), an activist voluntary organization working on ecological restoration and activism, spoke on the climate crisis and climate justice. Fr. Roberto, Secretary, SJES, Rome gave an online presentation on the ‘Jesuits’ Journey towards COP 30 and Beyond’. The second input session was on ‘COP Processes and International Politics’, emphatically presented by advocate M. Vertiselvan of the Poovulagin Nanbargal. Ms. Vinutha Gopal, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of ASAR, Socio Impact Advisors Ltd. presented effectively with her own grass root experiences on ‘Collaboration, Networking for Policy Level Intervention’.
The second day began with a field visit on the Loyola Green Initiatives in Loyola campus. The whole day was spent on sharing of the eco initiatives in each province, discerning and planning for concrete involvement at the Province, Zonal and Conference levels towards Climate Justice. We went of a field visit to Auroville, Pondicherry on the third day and witnessed concretely how eco restoration has been taking place there through conscious ecological efforts by eco activists.
