In a solemn Eucharistic celebration held on Sunday, 8 March 2026, Delhi Metropolitan Auxiliary Bishop Deepak Valerian Tauro ordained 36 third-year theology students from Vidyajyoti Institute of Religious Studies, Delhi, as deacons. The ceremony took place at the Millennium Hall on the campus of St. Xavier’s School Delhi, drawing a large gathering of clergy, religious, and faithful. The theme of the liturgy was “Hearts that Love, Hands that Serve,” highlighting the call to service and compassion in the ministry of the newly ordained deacons.
Addressing the candidates during his homily, Bishop Tauro encouraged them to carry out their pastoral responsibilities with gentleness and constant prayer. He reminded them of their mission to assist priests and bishops at the altar, proclaim the Gospel, and accompany the faithful in their spiritual journey.
The ceremony was organized under the guidance of Fr Nirmal Raj, Rector of Vidyajyoti Institute of Religious Studies, ensuring that the diaconate celebration was both meaningful and grace-filled. A large number of faithful from various parishes across Delhi—where the deacons had been engaged in ministry—attended the celebration to pray for them, along with many Jesuits, religious, friends, and well-wishers.
Among the prominent church leaders present were Fr Stanislaus D’Souza, President of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia; Fr Soosaimani, Provincial of Delhi, Fr Vincent Hansdak, Provincial of Hazaribagh; and Fr Dionysius G. L. Vaz, Provincial of Karnataka. Their presence added to the significance of the occasion, marking it as a grace-filled day for the Church and the Jesuit community.
