Review Meeting of JCSA at De Nobili College, Pune

The Review Meeting of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia (JCSA) was held at De Nobili College from 26 to 28 April 2026. The meeting brought together local superiors, directors of works, coordinators of forums and networks, POSA consultors, the President, and the Socius to reflect on the Renewal Roadmap (RR) and the challenge of ethnicity within the Society.

The gathering began with prayer and welcome sessions led by Fr K. T. Mathew, Fr Francis Pudhicherry, Fr Stany, and Fr Thomas Amirtham, setting a reflective and prayerful atmosphere. Sessions focused on the issue of negative ethnicity in JCSA, with presentations by Frs. Lancy Lobo and Thomas Perumalil. Group discussions highlighted the need for personal conversion, structural renewal, stronger formation processes, objective criteria for appointments, Ignatian discernment, and greater collaboration across regions and communities.

Fr Wendell D’Cruz emphasized that the Reimagining and Restructuring (RR) process applies to all provinces and communities. He called participants to rediscover unity through the Mission of God (Missio Dei) and outlined six objectives of RR, including spiritual growth, mission-driven communities, collective responsibility, and deepening Ignatian spirituality. Participants also stressed the importance of networking, collaboration with lay experts, strengthening Secretariats, and promoting institutional excellence.

The meeting concluded with participants expressing renewed commitment to mission, reconciliation, justice, collaboration, and Jesuit identity. While some felt that the RR discussions needed deeper contextual engagement, the gathering was widely appreciated for its spirit of fraternity, hospitality, and mission-oriented reflection. POSA congratulated the participants, and the meeting ended with a tribute to Fr Stan Swamy, inspiring renewed energy for service and renewal.
