Good wishes to Fr. Shaju and a load of Welcome to Fr. Tom

Fr. Shajumon Chakkalakkal, S.J., brings to an end his eventful journey as Socius, and Fr. Tom Perumalil, S.J., begins his adventurous voyage as Socius. What is left behind is just memories, sweet memories.

At the change of mission of these men, the overwhelming feeling I experience is, one of gratitude. The service of Shaju as Socius cannot easily be described. More than what he has accomplished, it is the person that he is and the support that he has been, is simply wonderful, and indeed unforgettable! That is why I am grateful.

I am also grateful for the gift of Tom. I am grateful to Tom for graciously accepting this ministry which is not exactly the natural expectation of men of his calibre and qualification. Thank you, Shaju! Thank you, Tom!

There are few offices in the Society of Jesus which require a combination of efficiency, credibility and love for the Society. One such office is that of the Socius. He has to be a bundle of binaries: judicious as well as generous; available as well as desk bound; knowledgeable as well as practical; resourceful as well as honest and the list goes on.

Shaju, you have carried out your many responsibilities with quiet efficiency, silent sacrifice and a sincere commitment. You have been for me a congenial companion and an indispensable assistant. On behalf of our communities, institutions, the Conference and the Society, thank you very much. As you embark on a new mission, be assured of our support, especially our prayers. May God continue to accompany, assist and accomplish great things in and through you.

Tom, I wish you a fruitful ministry as the Socius. Believe me, you will do well. Congratulations and all the best to you.  And so, a huge bouquet of thanks and good wishes to Shaju and a load of welcome to Tom. Thank you and God bless you.
