Andhra & Telangana Jesuits’ Response to COVID-19 Epidemic

The Covid-19 Scenario in Andhra & Telangana

Due to COVID 19 pandemic, around 139 million migrant workers who hail from different parts of the country and work in India different cities and towns got stranded! With factories and workplaces shut down, they were left with no livelihood. State governments set up immediate relief camps for the migrant workers eager to return to their native states.

Jesuits have been responding to this crisis situation all over the Conference of South Asia by helping migrants, students, beggars, daily wagers, poor people etc. through continuous food supply, health counseling, financial support and much more.

  

Key Activity &Updates

Community Kitchens

  • 500 capacity community kitchen has been established/ earmarked for migrants

Foods & Dry Ration Kits

  • 200 members for 22 days distributed food & ration kits to the needy
  • 4,038 families were given the food kits

Shelters & Quarantine Centers

  • Loyola School, Suryapet in Telangana has been converted into quarantine centres for COVID-19 positive cases
  • 100 people are placed in Andhra Loyola College auditorium

Masks & Sanitizers

  • 1000 (N-95) masks were purchased & distributed
  • 195 people were given sanitizers and 330 bars of soaps were distributed in Darsi in Andhra Pradesh, Lallapet and Addagutta slum in Hyderabad

Financial Aid

  • Rs. 5,49,000 amount has been distributed as financial support to various people out of which Rs. 2,000 each for 8 Volunteers, Rs. 11, 000 each for 48 contract workers and Rs 1, 000 each for 7 volunteers

Funds Donated

  • Amount of Rs. 34, 000 has been donated to Regional CRI (Conference of Religious India)

Awareness Programmes/Information & Updates

  • Online Counselling is provided to the people to generate awareness & how to utilise time with family in this crisis

Human Resource Engagement

  • 80 members showed up for this relief work as a volunteers

Vehicles for Relief Work

  • 15 Vehicles have been going around providing relief services to the victims all over
